Abstract: Mathematics learning has
an important role in improving the quality of human resources. In order to
achieve these objectives, mathematics learning should be able to facilitate
individuals to develop higher order thinking skills. Fact on field indicate
that mathematics learning in Indonesia has not oriented to higher order
thinking skills. It can be seen from the low achievement of Indonesian students
in the TIMSS study. Some efforts should be made to improve mathematical higher
order thinking skills of senior high school students, namely: (1) involve
students in activities of non-routine problem solving; (2) facilitating
students to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate (critical thinking) and
the ability to create (creative thinking); and (3) encourage students to
construct their own knowledge.
